Spiritual Direction
I am a Certified Spiritual Director (CSD) and a professional member of the Christ-Centered Spiritual Direction Association (CSDA). I am under formal supervision at the Fall Creek Abbey School of Spiritual Direction so that I can be an affiliate Spiritual Director of this Indianapolis hub of trained Spiritual Directors. In the same way I went through a rigorous ordination process with the American Baptist Churches, to include formal theological education and pastoral supervision, I believe it is important to partner with the Holy Spirit to be trained, equipped, and certified to do what God has called and gifted me to do as a Spiritual Director. I am committed to seeing my own Spiritual Director and being under supervision in my practice.
I find great joy in companioning people on their spiritual journey, desiring to see the Holy Spirit strengthen their spiritual vitality in their lives and ministries. It is my desire to see Christians and congregations learn how to find rest for their souls in the easy yoke of Jesus Christ. I am uniquely qualified to companion people who serve in vocational ministry, paid or volunteer, full-time or part-time, inside the church, or serving in parachurch organizations. Leaders need soul care more than ever in today's world!
Two deeply formative experiences of my ministry life that have prepared me to this calling, beyond formal education, vocational training, and on-the-job pastoral experience, have been my pastoral burnout in 2015 and my 3-month sabbatical in 2019. Through this transformative healing journey with the same congregation I continue to serve today, I resumed spiritual direction after taking a break from it for a decade, completed my doctoral degree, started writing and publishing Christian discipleship and Bible devotional books, and became a certified spiritual director through CSDA at Fall Creek Abbey. My testimony demonstrates that pastoral burnout is not the end of ministry; it is the beginning of a new season of life with Christ that can be the most effective and fruitful time of your life.
I would love to companion you wherever you may find yourself on the journey. I'm not sure what opportunities will be opened and relationships will be built by putting myself out there like this, but for now I am thankful to be on the journey wherever the Lord is taking me. As long as I get to do it with Him. May God be glorified as each of us is transformed by the renewal of our minds! Soli Deo Gloria!
